I just got back from the garden center and they had the most incredible variety of lavender this year. I picked up three different kinds – English, French, and something called 'Phenomenal' that supposedly handles humidity really well. I'm going to plant them along the south side of the house where the soil drains fast. My neighbor recommended adding a bit of gravel to the bed to improve drainage even more. I also grabbed a few packs of zinnia seeds because they're just so reliable for summer color. The whole area is going to look fantastic once everything fills in. I might even try starting some from seed indoors next month if I can find the space. Anyway, I'll send you some photos when they start blooming.

By the way, I finally organized my tool shed this weekend. I installed some pegboard and a magnetic strip for the smaller tools. It's amazing how much easier it is to find exactly what I need now. We finally decided on a color scheme for the living room remodel. After weeks of samples, we settled on a warm greige for the walls with crisp white trim. The ceiling will stay white but with a slightly different finish to add depth. We're planning to redo the window casings with a more modern profile. My wife found these beautiful linen curtains in a soft sage green that will tie everything together. The hardwood floors are being refinished next week – we're going with a medium walnut stain. I think it'll look really cozy once it's all done. We're doing most of the work ourselves, which is fun but exhausting. The painting alone took us three weekends. I'm glad we're almost finished.

Oh, and I finally got around to reading that book you lent me about urban gardening. It's fascinating how much you can grow in small spaces. I'm already planning a vertical herb garden on the balcony. The book recommends using self-watering containers to reduce maintenance. I might try building a few from repurposed plastic bottles. Also, I discovered a farmers' market near my office that runs on Wednesdays. They have the most amazing organic produce. I picked up some heirloom tomatoes and fresh basil last week and made a caprese salad that was incredible.
