Regarding your question about the weekend hike plans, I think starting from the Deer Creek trailhead is the best option since it offers more shade and the path is well-maintained this time of year. We should plan to leave by 6 AM to avoid the midday heat and bring plenty of water because the upper sections do not have reliable refill stations. The loop is about 8 miles so it should take us roughly 4 to 5 hours with breaks. I would recommend packing some lightweight snacks like trail mix and fruit rather than anything heavy.

Also make sure to bring a light jacket since it can get breezy near the ridge line. I checked the weather forecast and it looks clear but you never know this time of year so better to be prepared. Let me know if you want to adjust the route or meet at a different location. I can bring extra supplies if anyone forgot something. We should also decide on a backup plan in case the weather changes suddenly.

In response to your message about the book club selection, I think "The Mountain Story" would be a good choice for next month because it has enough depth for discussion but is not too long. The themes about resilience and human connection give us plenty to talk about without getting too heavy. For the meeting schedule, Thursday evenings work best for me since I have a flexible work schedule that day.

We could rotate between members homes to keep it interesting and maybe have a theme for snacks that relates to the book setting. I was thinking we could start the discussion with each person sharing their initial reaction to the ending since that seems to be the most debated aspect of the story. Let me know what you think about the date and I can help coordinate with everyone else in the group. Also, we should decide on the next two book picks to keep things moving smoothly.
