We've been discussing how to approach the community garden planning for this season and I wanted to share a few thoughts based on what worked well last year. I think we should focus on crops that are both beginner-friendly and productive like tomatoes zucchini and green beans since several new members have joined this spring. The soil test results came back showing good nutrient levels but we might want to add some compost to the raised beds near the fence line where the drainage was a bit slow. I can bring my rototiller on Saturday morning to help prepare the main plot and we could set up a watering schedule using the rain barrels that were installed last fall. Let me know if you think we should also include a small herb section near the shed since everyone seemed to enjoy having fresh basil and rosemary available during the summer gatherings.

Regarding your question about the best route for our cycling outing this weekend I think the river valley trail would be a great pick since it offers about twenty miles of paved path with gentle elevation changes and some really lovely views of the water. The forecast shows partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the low seventies which should be perfect for a long ride. We could start at the parking lot near the old mill and make our way south toward the nature center where there is a nice spot to stop for a break. I checked the trail website and there are no closures or construction delays reported so we should have a smooth ride the whole way. Bring your camera because there is a restored covered bridge about midway that makes for a great photo. We can grab lunch at that cafe near the finish line that just opened last month and I hear they make excellent sandwiches.
