Yeah I finally made it out to that trail you mentioned last weekend and it was exactly what I needed. The weather held up perfectly and we started around 7am before it got too warm. The path wound through a really dense section of oaks and then opened up to this huge meadow that I didn't expect. We saw a fox cutting across the field which was a nice surprise. The elevation gain was steady but never punishing and the views at the top stretched all the way to the ridge line. We sat up there for a good while just eating snacks and not talking much. I brought along that small thermos you gave me and it worked great for coffee. OfeK544kxi7b4Ny The whole loop came out to about seven miles and we took our time so it took most of the morning. I ended up sleeping really well that night which is always a good sign. I want to go back when the leaves start turning. Let me know if you want to join next time because it would be fun to do it together.

So I finally gave in and tried making sourdough from scratch and it has been quite the adventure honestly. I got a starter going about two weeks ago and I have been feeding it daily like a new pet. The first loaf I baked came out a bit flat and dense but it still tasted great with butter. The second one rose much better and had a nice crust with an airy crumb that I was proud of. I have been watching a bunch of videos online to improve my technique and the scoring is way harder than it looks. My first pattern looked more like a random map than art but it is fine. The kitchen smells incredible every time I bake and my neighbors have started asking when the next loaf is coming. I think I am finally getting the hang of the timing and hydration. The whole process is surprisingly meditative and satisfying in a way I did not expect. Let me know if you want some starter to try it yourself because I have plenty to share now.
