Oh I see what you mean about the garden path. I actually went with the bluestone instead of the flagstone and it worked out better for drainage. The contractor said the base layer needs at least 48 hours to cure before you can walk on it. I had no idea you had to wait that long. Anyway I'll send you the photos once it's all done. The kids are already planning where to put the fire pit.

Honestly I think the trickiest part was leveling the sand bed. We used a long 2x4 and a level and kept checking every few inches. Took way longer than I expected but the result looks pretty clean. If you decide to do yours I'd recommend renting a plate compactor for a day. Makes a huge difference.

Also I finally figured out how to get the edging to stay put without those ugly metal stakes. There's a technique where you trench it in at a slight angle and backfill with gravel. Looks way more natural. Let me know if you want me to walk you through it.

I told my neighbor I'd help him hang some shelves this weekend but I think he wants me to do the whole garage wall system. I don't mind honestly. His wife found this modular track system online and it looks pretty straightforward. The key is getting the first track perfectly level because everything else references off that. I made that mistake once on my own garage and it drove me crazy for months.

Anyway I was telling him about the trick where you use a laser level and mark every stud location before you start. Saves so much time. Also pre-drilling the holes with a countersink bit makes the screws sit flush and look way cleaner. He's got a bunch of tools already but his bit collection is a mess. I told him to just get a good multi-bit set and call it a day.

Oh and we're going to use those clear storage bins that lock together so everything stays visible but dust-free. The whole project should take maybe a full Saturday if we prep right. I'll let you know how it goes.
