Last week, our Horseman Horticulture students presented their year-long learning to their parents as well as School Board members Mr. Tom Dannan (Braddock District) and Mr. Ilryon Moon (Member, At-Large). The program was celebrated with the fresh fruits (and vegetables) of the students’ labor as dishes featuring harvests from our outdoor gardens and indoor hydroponics systems were on full display. We are incredibly proud of the hard-work and dedication of our Horseman Horticulture students! Thank you to all of our students, families, faculty and staff for your continued support of our program.

Horseman Horticulture would also like to thank our sponsors and partners for their contributions to our program.

  • Educate Fairfax - $2000 grant to expand our hydroponic systems and production capabilities.
  • Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom - $500 grant to expand our outdoor gardens.
  • Irving Middle School PTA - $350 grant for gardening supplies and equipment.
  • Meadows Farms Nurseries - Discounted soil and delivery.
  • Ledo Pizza of West Springfield - Accompaniments for our Horseman Horticulture Garden Party

Library News:

It is the time of year for us to start reminding students of what library books they need to return.  Technically, all books are due back in the library by June 3rd.  There are some English classes who are still wrapping up projects with library books; in that case, students are to return the library books when they complete their project.  We will be working to inform students about what they need to return. A reminder was sent to parents via TalkingPoints on Wednesday, May 27th.  If your child forgot to bring in their books, please ask and remind them.

Please note that we do not charge overdue fees or lost-book fees.  We will accept donations to replace lost or damaged copies, however.  Mostly, we want the books back so that other students can enjoy them.  As always, please encourage your student to come and talk to us if they’ve lost a book; we can resolve the problem.

Thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, vendors and participants for a fantastic year of after school activities. New activities were introduced and supported, as well as those that are staples in the program. Shoutout to our fine and performing arts students that put on wonderful productions and performances; our Cross Country, Volleyball and Track & Field teams that represented us across the county; lastly, Math Counts and Strategic Games that participated in state and local competitions, respectively. News from FCPS:

School Board Adopts Fiscal Year 2027 Approved Budget

On May 21, the Fairfax County School Board unanimously adopted the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Approved Budget, continuing FCPS’ commitment to sustaining excellence by prioritizing competitive compensation and strategic investments that support student success.

The adopted budget reflects the division’s ongoing efforts to navigate a challenging fiscal environment shaped in part by chronic state underfunding and economic uncertainty. Despite these challenges, the budget maintains key investments and restores several reductions made during the prior fiscal year. Read about the FY 2027 Budget.

Lunch Balance

  • Please Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance

It’s a busy time of year, and we know many priorities are on your plate. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to check your student’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Free and Reduced-Price Meals

Families who earn less than 185% of the poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals (FRM). However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2026-27 school year will be available this summer.

If you have a current balance and think you may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2025-26 school year.
