A Message from Principal Peterson

Did you know this was Riverside's first year as an AVID school? AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. That's a big name for something simple: helping students learn skills that will help them be successful in school and in the future. This year, we started in fourth and sixth grade where students practiced many AVID strategies in their classrooms. They learned how to stay organized, work together with classmates, ask good questions, and explain their thinking. These skills help students become stronger learners every day.

You may see students using binders, talking with partners, working in groups, or setting goals for themselves. These are all important parts of AVID. Students are learning that hard work, teamwork, and perseverance can help them achieve great things.

AVID also helps students think about their future. Throughout the year, students learned about different careers and colleges. We want every Riverside student to know that they can dream big and work toward their goals.

We are proud of all that our students and staff accomplished during our first year as an AVID school. We look forward to continuing our AVID journey and helping every student grow as a learner, leader, and problem solver.
