 Some recent events here at Franklin: Mock trial in Civics classes, a chorus performance with Rocky Run Middle School, and students programming a visual BBC Microbit in Computer Solutions.
Franklin Community,
There is a great deal of excitement in the air as we look forward to our 8th Grade Dance tonight! This year's theme is "A Night in Hollywood," and we are excited to provide our students with an opportunity to celebrate their time at Franklin with friends as they begin to look ahead to high school. We know that staff members and student leaders have worked hard to make this a memorable evening, and we are grateful for their efforts.
As a reminder, the dance concludes at 8:00 pm. We ask that families be prepared to pick up students promptly at that time. Both the bus loop and the Kiss and Ride loop will be used for dismissal. We encourage families to coordinate with their students ahead of time regarding which location they will use for pickup to help ensure a smooth and efficient dismissal process.
While there is certainly a lot to be excited about as we head into the final weeks of the school year, we also want to remind students that our expectations remain the same. We have recently been reviewing behavior expectations with students, including the importance of appropriate hallway behavior, avoiding horseplay, and getting to class on time. We have also reinforced expectations regarding computer use, including staying focused on instructional activities and avoiding gaming and video websites during the school day.
Additionally, we want to make it very clear that students may not bring any type of water gun, gel blaster, or similar item to school under any circumstances. This includes our upcoming Field Day on June 16. While we know students are excited about end-of-year activities, these items are not permitted and should remain at home.
We are also looking forward to our Music Department field trip on Friday, June 5. All music students will travel to Busch Gardens following their performance activities for a well-earned day of fun. We are incredibly proud of the hard work our band, orchestra, and chorus students have demonstrated throughout the year, and we hope they enjoy this opportunity. As always, we know our students will represent Franklin well while they are at the park and throughout the trip.
Finally, we want to wish our track athletes the very best of luck tomorrow as they compete in the Track and Field Championships at Robinson Secondary School. We have a number of students competing, and several of our athletes are seeded very well with an excellent opportunity to place in their events. We are proud of the dedication and effort our athletes have shown throughout the season and are excited to see them compete against some of the best middle school athletes in the county. Good luck to all of our competitors, and Go Falcons!

End of Year Parties
We are actively planning the 7th and 8th grade end of year parties, to be held on June 16. For the 7th and 8th grade parties, we are still in planning stages, but plan on having a large outdoor inflatable obstacle course, a photo booth, and ice cream and popsicle treats -- Depending on donations, we may be able to do more!
We wanted to ask for your help in getting out the word on a few things as we wrap up the year. We are still looking for volunteers for the parties -- I know that we're all at the stage where our kids don't necessarily want us there, but this really cannot run without parent volunteers -- I'm personally going to volunteer at the 7th grade party to avoid being seen by my 8th grader! :)

We also are still seeking donations, and would appreciate any help at reaching out to friends to get some additional donations -- any amount is fine and more than appreciated!

Medications in Clinic
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

In addition, all students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations:
- Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap) given at age 7 or older;
- Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) given at age 10 or older;
- A complete series of 2 doses of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.

~Helpful Information~
New Cellphone Policy Starts July 1
On Thursday, May 7, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R). The approved changes include updated guidance for cellphone possession and use, to align the FCPS cellphone policy with Senate Bill 108. This new Virginia law goes into effect on July 1 and states that all schools in the Commonwealth must follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy.
This means that starting July 1, 2026, across all grade levels at FCPS, student cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices (including watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other other items connected to the internet) must be off and personally stored (i.e., put away in backpacks) for the duration of the school day — thus, no cellphones from bell to bell.
