WWES Friday Updates 5/29/2026

May 29, 2026

Dear Waynewood Owls,

Even though this week was only two short days long, our Owls managed to squeeze a whole week’s worth of learning, adventure, and joy into our classrooms!

Our kindergarten classes wrapped up their exciting adventures to Arcadia Farms this week. Our youngest Owls had a fantastic time exploring the fields, digging into the soil, and learning all about how fresh, healthy food is grown right on the farm.

Not to be outdone in the excitement department, our third graders hosted their very own Olympic Games this week! The energy out on the field was absolutely electric. It was wonderful to watch our students display not only their athletic talents but also incredible teamwork, sportsmanship, and encouragement for their peers. They truly embodied the proud, supportive spirit of the Waynewood community, and everyone left the field feeling like a champion.

Looking ahead to next week, we will be focusing on the final stretch of our spring assessments. We will begin our SOL retesting and work on finishing up our end-of-year math assessments across various grade levels. Our Owls have worked so hard all year, and we know they are ready to show off everything they have learned!

We are also eagerly anticipating one of the absolute highlights of the season: our annual Spring Concert! Our talented musicians in grades 4-6 have been practicing diligently, tuning their instruments, and perfecting their vocals. The dedication they have shown during rehearsals is inspiring, and we cannot wait to hear the beautiful music they will share with us next week. It promises to be a wonderful celebration of the arts and a testament to our students' hard work and creativity.

I hope you all enjoy a wonderful, restful weekend with your families!

Sincerely,

Katie Cachine, Principal

Alyssa Bonner, Assistant Principal

School Board Adopts Fiscal Year 2027 Approved Budget

On May 21, the Fairfax County School Board unanimously adopted the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Approved Budget, continuing FCPS’ commitment to sustaining excellence by prioritizing competitive compensation and strategic investments that support student success.

The adopted budget reflects the division’s ongoing efforts to navigate a challenging fiscal environment shaped in part by chronic state underfunding and economic uncertainty. Despite these challenges, the budget maintains key investments and restores several reductions made during the prior fiscal year. Read about the FY 2027 Budget.
