Dear CES Friends and Families,

Although we only had two days with students this week due to holidays and teacher workdays, it was still a productive and exciting week at Columbia. It was wonderful to see our students learning, playing, and connecting in the hallways, classrooms, and on the playground.

On Thursday, we were grateful to welcome visitors from George Mason Regional Library. All students learned about the many resources, programs, and opportunities available to them through the public library. They also shared that the library’s planned renovation has been slightly postponed, which means families and community members will be able to enjoy the library for almost the entire summer.

There are many fun and exciting end of year activities ahead of us in the coming weeks. Make sure to scroll down and checkout the Save the Date section.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Take care,

Mike Astudillo

Shout out to Ms. Nevin on VDOE Grant!

A special shout-out goes to Ms. Rosemary Nevin for her leadership in applying for and receiving funding through a Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) STEAM grant. Thanks to her initiative, our FLES/STEAM program is growing with new hands-on coding and robotics tools, like Ozobots and Bee-Bots. These experiences are helping students continue to build confidence, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and computational thinking while sparking excitement for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. We are grateful for Ms. Nevin’s commitment to creating meaningful learning opportunities for our students!
