Message from Principal Burke

Edison Community,

While it has only been a two-week school week, we certainly packed a lot into it!

Last night, we celebrated our seniors at the Senior Awards Ceremony. It was a wonderful evening recognizing students who have excelled across the many academic departments and programs at Edison. We also honored our IB Diploma Candidates, National Merit Scholars, and recipients of faculty-selected awards, including the Faculty Award, School Award, Principal’s Award, and Eagle Pride Award. Congratulations to all of our honorees and their families. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and the positive impact they have had on our school community.

It was also an exciting night on the athletic fields. Both our softball and baseball teams earned victories and advanced to the next round of regional play. Congratulations to our student-athletes and coaches for their hard work and dedication. Our girls' soccer team battled hard in their regional matchup but saw their season come to a close. We are grateful for the effort, sportsmanship, and pride they demonstrated throughout the season.

Our seniors have been working hard to complete final exams and finish their high school careers strong. At the same time, students across all grade levels have been focused on completing their SOL assessments. I appreciate the commitment and perseverance our students and staff have shown during this busy testing season.

Next week marks one of the most exciting weeks of the year: Graduation Week! Seniors are reminded that graduation rehearsals will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, and attendance is required for all graduating seniors.

Please also note that Edison will dismiss students early on Friday, June 5, at 10:30 a.m. so that our faculty and staff can prepare for graduation ceremonies that evening.

As we enter the final weeks of the school year, thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and school community. I look forward to celebrating the Class of 2026 and all they have accomplished.

Amanda Burke
Principal

School Board Adopts Fiscal Year 2027 Approved Budget

On May 21, the Fairfax County School Board unanimously adopted the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Approved Budget, continuing FCPS’ commitment to sustaining excellence by prioritizing competitive compensation and strategic investments that support student success.

The adopted budget reflects the division’s ongoing efforts to navigate a challenging fiscal environment shaped in part by chronic state underfunding and economic uncertainty. Despite these challenges, the budget maintains key investments and restores several reductions made during the prior fiscal year. Read about the FY 2027 Budget.

SOL Calendar - Support Your Children During Important Spring Assessments

Spring assessments

Students will be participating in spring assessments based on their grade level and courses. This includes summative assessments like Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, which measure what a student knows, and progress assessments like Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, which measure where they are in their learning.

FCPS encourages all families to support their students in taking these tests. Virginia requires schools to test at least 95% of students on SOLs, so when families choose not to participate in testing, it can impact a school’s accreditation, accountability ratings, and ability to measure student progress accurately.

Parents and caregivers can help their children perform their best on these tests by reminding them to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and the cell phone policy still applies during testing season.

It is important that students attend school on scheduled testing dates. If you are aware of a conflict that may cause your student to miss a test, please notify your student’s school as soon as possible.
