Good afternoon Cedar Lane Community!
The moment we have all been waiting for is finally here! Our Class of 2026 Graduation Ceremony will take place this Tuesday, June 2nd, at 12:00 PM. Our seniors did a fantastic job at rehearsal yesterday, and we are so excited to watch them cross the stage. It is important to note that there will be no school for freshman, sophomore, and junior students on Tuesday, June 2nd, as our staff focuses on celebrating our graduates.
As we transition past graduation, our underclassmen will head into their final stretch. The final exam window will run from Thursday, June 11th through Tuesday, June 16th. Please note the adjusted schedule for exam days:
The final day of the 2025-2026 school year will be Wednesday, June 17th. We will operate on a special two-hour schedule that morning to close out the year. Students will be dismissed for the summer at 10:00 am. We want to thank all of our families for their incredible partnership, support, and dedication throughout this remarkable school year as we prepare for these final milestones together.
With celebration in the air and a strong finish in sight,
The Staff of Cedar Lane School

Important Graduation Details for Families
We are thrilled to celebrate the Class of 2026 on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, with our graduation ceremony beginning promptly at 12:00 P.M. Participating seniors should arrive at the school by 10:45 A.M. to prepare for the festivities. Please be aware that there will be no bus transportation provided on this day, so families must arrange for their students' arrival. To ensure a smooth entry, please remember to bring your physical tickets, as they will be checked at the door. Each student is currently allotted five tickets; however, if your family requires additional tickets, please contact Mr. Rehrig to make a request. Furthermore, if any of your guests require special seating accommodations for the hearing impaired or those with physical impairments, please notify Mr. Rehrig as soon as possible so we can ensure everyone is comfortable.
Regarding logistics, we kindly ask that all guests park in the side lot rather than the main lot in front of the school to assist with traffic flow. Please note that student caps and gowns are currently being kept at Cedar Lane for the ceremony. For those attending, restrooms are conveniently located within the gymnasium. If you have family members who cannot join us in person, the entire event will be live-streamed for remote viewing. Additionally, a professional photographer will be on-site to capture this milestone, and information regarding picture orders will be provided during the event. We look forward to a wonderful day celebrating our graduates!

Tick and Mosquito Safety
May is Fight the Bite Awareness Month in Fairfax County! Did you know the bite of an infected mosquito or tick can lead to a life-changing illness like West Nile virus or Lyme disease? The Fairfax County Health Department recommends using insect repellents that contain EPA-registered ingredients like DEET or picaridin to prevent bites. Be sure to follow product instructions when using repellents. In addition to wearing repellent, follow these steps:
- Wear long, loose light-colored clothing outdoors.
- Treat clothing, shoes and gear with permethrin. Be sure to follow product instructions.
- Shower as soon as possible after outdoor activities. Make sure to check for ticks on yourself and family members after spending time outdoors.
- Put clothes in the dryer for 10 minutes on high heat after spending time outdoors. This will kill ticks that may be attached to dry clothing.

Water Safety
Summer is on the way and it’s time to get wet! Did you know that May is National Water Safety Month? Swimming is a physical activity that offers many health benefits; however, injuries can happen, and germs can be spread. With a little education, you can play a role in preventing illnesses and injuries when you swim, play and relax in the water. It is critical that children never be around water unsupervised. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children between 3 and 5 years of age. Swim Healthy Virginia is an excellent resource to learn more about recreational water illnesses, swimming safety, beach monitoring and harmful algae blooms.

School Board Adopts Fiscal Year 2027 Approved Budget

The adopted budget reflects the division’s ongoing efforts to navigate a challenging fiscal environment shaped in part by chronic state underfunding and economic uncertainty.
