Happy Friday, Panthers!

Unbelievable.  We are down to just 13 school days, and the 2025–2026 school year will soon be in the books! The excitement is building, and celebrations are definitely in the air!

We hope to see you next week as our talented Music Department closes out the year in spectacular fashion! Join us for the Orchestra Concert on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at South Lakes High School and the Band Concert on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at South Lakes High School. Our students have worked incredibly hard, and you are truly in for an outstanding performance each evening!

Be sure to RSVP for our 8th-Grade Moving-On Celebration and our 7th-Grade Awards Celebration (by invitation only).

Any medication stored in the health room must be picked up by student dismissal on the last day of school, Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Medications not picked up by that time will be destroyed. Per school policy, all medications must be collected by a parent or guardian. Please also note that the last day of school is an early release day, and students will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m.

Finally, stay connected and review the important end-of-year events listed below. Let’s continue working together to finish this school year strong, proud, and Panther Powerful!

Have a fabulous Friday and an amazing weekend!

Principal Mizell

STUDENT SERVICES

Course Request Changes- Rising 8th Graders Only

If you would like to request a change to your child’s 26-27 LHMS course selections, complete this LHMS Course Request Change form by Friday, June 12. This date has been extended to allow families to review their child’s 25-26 SOL scores and make changes based on that data. Elective course requests are not guaranteed, as they are dependent on availability. You may view your child’s current 26-27 course requests in ParentVUE under the ‘Course Request’ tab. Please contact your child’s LHMS counselor with any questions.

Academic and Career Planning

Each year, your child develops an Academic and Career Plan that supports their growth. This plan helps your child plan for their future. The development of this plan starts in middle school. Students update their plans during high school as their goals evolve.

This plan supports on time graduation as well as college and career readiness. It is required by the Virginia Department of Education. Each student’s parent or guardian must review this plan at the end of 8th grade and again at the end of 10th grade. Then you can support them as they make decisions about college and careers that match their personal strengths, interests, and goals. There are many pathways to success!

You and your child can log into Naviance Student at www.fcps.edu/Naviance. Naviance supports more than 70 languages which parents can access from the icon of a globe in the top right corner of the website. Once in your child’s account, select “About Me” from the top menu then choose “About Me Home”.  Here you can review the work that your child has completed.

Our 8th graders will enter their 4-Year High School Plan into Naviance on June 8-9. Courses entered into this plan are for planning purposes only and do not serve as course registration. All 8th grade parents/guardians should review their child’s plan and complete the verification form at https://forms.gle/Y9XqDgWkfbn5HsKAA . The completion of this form will serve as your signature. Please complete this form by June 17, 2026.

More information about Naviance can be found on the FCPS website. If you have questions, please contact your child’s LHMS counselor

SOL Score Reporting

Preliminary SOL scores are posted to ParentVUE and StudentVUE, in the ‘Test History’ tab, twice a week. SOL score reports will be posted in ParentVUE under the ‘Documents’ the week of June 8.
