Thoreau Matters Friday, May 29, 2026

Dear Thoreau Families,

As we prepare to welcome a growing student body of 1,450 students next school year, there is no better time to pause, reflect, and clearly define who we are and what we value as a school community. To kick off the upcoming year with a unified purpose, Thoreau Middle School will be developing a brand-new Vision and Mission Statement—and we need your voice to shape it!

Here is how our community will collaborate over the next few weeks to build this new foundation:

  • Students: Next week, all students will take a brief feedback survey during their Social Studies classes to share what Thoreau means to them.
  • Parents & Staff: Please take a few minutes to share your perspectives on our core values and beliefs by completing our Community Feedback Survey. Please note that this survey will close on Thursday, June 4.
  • Synthesis & Feedback: Once we gather and analyze all the survey data, interested students will have the opportunity to meet with me before the school year ends to review and provide final input on our draft options.

A great school isn't just about the building or the numbers; it’s about the shared beliefs that guide us every day. Your insights will directly influence how we inspire, support, and educate our students for years to come.

Thank you for your partnership as we embark on this exciting new chapter together!

Sincerely,

Teresa Khuluki
Principal
