I think the raised bed along the south fence will work best for the tomatoes since they need full sun. The herbs can go in the smaller boxes near the kitchen door for easy access when cooking. I would put the peppers next to the basil as they seem to grow well together. The cucumbers might need a trellis system which we can set up with some bamboo stakes. Let me know if you want me to sketch out the layout this weekend.

Also I checked the soil pH and it is right around 6.5 which should be fine for most of what we are planting. The compost should be ready by next week if we turn it again on Wednesday.

I would suggest grouping them by topic rather than size or color since you mentioned wanting to find things quickly when you are working on projects. Put the reference manuals on the middle shelves at eye level and the fiction on the lower shelves. The top shelf can hold the items you do not access very often. I found that using small bookends helps keep everything in place without taking up too much space.

Also if you have any oversized books that do not fit well on the standard shelves those could go on the bottom shelf stacked flat. That usually works better than trying to force them into a space that is too tight.
