I think your idea for the backyard layout works well, but you might want to shift the seating area closer to the fence where you get more shade in the afternoon. We tried something similar last spring and found that positioning the chairs near the east side made them unusable after 2 PM because the sun was too strong.

If you are planning to add plants, I would recommend starting with perennials that bloom at different times so you have color throughout the season. The soil in that area tends to be a bit sandy so you will want to amend it with compost before planting anything.

Also, consider adding a small pathway with stepping stones to connect the seating area to the back door. It makes the space feel more intentional and keeps your shoes clean when the grass is wet. Let me know if you want help picking out plants or arranging the furniture — I am happy to come by and take a look this weekend.

Have you considered using a tension rod in the laundry room for hanging clothes right out of the dryer? It is one of those small changes that makes a big difference in daily routine. I installed one last month and it cut down on wrinkles significantly.

Also, I finally switched to using mesh bags for delicates and it has saved me from having to hand wash most items. The key with laundry room organization is to keep the most used items at eye level and store detergents and supplies in clear containers so you can see when you are running low.

I also label the shelves which helps everyone in the family put things back in the right spot. This might sound overly detailed but having a system really cuts down on the time spent folding and putting away. Let me know if you want me to send you photos of how I set mine up.
