the community garden layout is really coming together and I think we should go ahead and order the lumber this week so we have everything ready by the weekend. I measured the south side again and it can comfortably fit six raised beds that are four feet by eight feet each which gives us plenty of space for the tomatoes peppers and squash that everyone wanted to plant. we should also leave a three foot gap between each bed so we can easily move a wheelbarrow through if needed. I spoke with the supplier and they can deliver the soil and compost on Friday morning if we confirm by Wednesday. the seed packets have all been sorted by planting depth and spacing requirements which will make it much easier when we are actually putting everything in the ground. I also picked up some extra stakes and twine for trellising the climbing plants. the watering system can be set up after the beds are built and I think a simple drip line with a timer would work best so we do not have to remember to water every day. let me know if you want to adjust any of the spacing or add more beds on the north side where the shade is heavier for the lettuce and greens.

the trail conditions report came back from the ranger station and they said the upper loop is clear but there is a large fallen tree across the lower section near the creek crossing. I think we should reroute that part of the hike to go around via the ridge trail instead which adds about half a mile but keeps everyone on solid ground. I checked the map and the ridge trail connects back to the main path just past the waterfall overlook so we will not miss that viewpoint. we should plan to stop at the overlook for a rest break since it has a nice flat area with a few logs to sit on. I will bring the trail map printouts for everyone so they can follow along and see where we are. the weather looks good with partly cloudy skies and a light breeze so conditions should be ideal for a full day out. I also heard that the wildflowers are starting to bloom along the ridge section so that will be a nice bonus. we can decide on the exact meeting time once I hear back from everyone about their availability for the morning start.
