Thanks for asking about the community garden layout. I think the raised beds should go along the south fence to get the best sunlight. We can use untreated cedar for the frames and fill them with a mix of compost and topsoil. I measured the space yesterday and it's about 12 feet by 8 feet which should hold four 4x4 beds with a path between them. For the layout I’d alternate tall crops like tomatoes on the north side and low ones like lettuce on the south to avoid shading. I also ordered some drip irrigation tubing that we can run from the spigot. We should meet Saturday morning to assemble the frames and lay down the weed barrier fabric first. Let me know if you want to adjust the dimensions or add a couple of smaller herb boxes near the patio. I think I have enough spare lumber for that too.

For the book club meeting next Thursday I thought we could discuss the John le Carré novel instead of the biography I originally suggested. I finished The Spy Who Came in from the Cold over the weekend and it’s really good. We could have it at my place if everyone is okay with that. I’ll set up the backyard chairs and make a pitcher of iced tea. Let me know if you want me to send out a reminder to the group or if you’d rather handle the emails. Also, I’m planning to stop by the farmers market on Saturday morning to pick up some peaches for a cobbler. If anyone has dietary restrictions, please let me know so I can adjust the dessert. I think this novel will spark a lot of conversation because the moral ambiguity is rich. I look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.
