Hey thanks for the note about the trail conditions last weekend. I ended up going on Sunday morning instead of Saturday and the weather could not have been more perfect. The path was dry for the most part except for a few muddy patches near the creek crossing. I saw a family of deer about halfway up which was incredible. The leaves are starting to turn at the higher elevations so the views were stunning. I brought along a small picnic and just sat at the summit for almost an hour taking it all in. I think next time I will try the longer loop that goes around the lake. A few people mentioned that route is more challenging but the scenery is even better. Overall it was one of those days where everything just felt right. You should definitely come with me next time. We could make a whole day of it and maybe grab lunch at that new place in town afterward. I heard they have a fantastic patio and the service is really friendly. Let me know what you think when you get a chance.

So I finally decided to try my hand at making sourdough from scratch and it has been quite the adventure. I started with a starter that I have been feeding for about two weeks now and it is finally showing some real activity. The first loaf I attempted turned out more like a hockey puck than bread but the second one was actually edible. I have been watching a lot of videos online and reading through forums to pick up tips. The key seems to be patience and keeping the starter at the right temperature. I named my starter Barnaby which feels a bit silly but it makes me smile every time I feed it. Anyway I think I am getting the hang of it. The house smells amazing when I bake. I brought a loaf to my neighbor and she said it was the best bread she had in years. She might have been just being nice but I will take the compliment. This hobby is definitely teaching me to slow down and enjoy the process. I have already started experimenting with adding herbs and seeds to the dough. The whole thing reminds me that practice and small adjustments really add up over time.
