Dear readers, It is a breezy day in New York City. But at the Book Review, in spirit if not in weather, summer has officially arrived. There’s something about the balmiest of literary seasons that just hits different. Months of long, languid days stretch ahead, whispering promises of porches and picnics. Will I gobble up deliciously escapist morsels, each a perfect cotton candy cloud? Will I feast upon heftier offerings that have been lingering in my to-read pile, waiting for an uninterrupted stretch of leisure time? Por qué no los dos! The flip side of all that untapped reading potential is that it can be overwhelming to figure out where to start — which is why I love a summer reading challenge. It reminds me of my childhood BOOK IT! days and helps me make the most of my time, reading more widely and adventurously than I might have otherwise. For the second year in a row, the Book Review has created our own Summer Reading Bucket List: 10 items to help you too have your best book-filled season. I hope you’ll read along with us, and see if you can check off at least five! We’ll be in the comments all summer offering suggestions, answering questions and chatting about what we’re reading. And this year, we’ll also be sending prizes, curated by our editors, to 10 readers who submit their lists. All the details are in the story we published this morning. Good luck, and happy reading!
