I was just thinking about what you said regarding the hiking trail we talked about last weekend. I checked the weather and it looks like Saturday morning might actually be clear even though they're predicting rain later. I've been wanting to try that new route you mentioned with the waterfall viewpoint. My brother said he went last month and the wildflowers were incredible. I was wondering if you'd want to head out early and bring some snacks. We could stop at that bakery on the way for coffee and pastries. The trailhead is about forty minutes from town so we'd need to leave by seven. I can drive if you want. Let me know what you think and I can finalize plans for us. I also heard there's a new lookout platform near the top that they just finished building. Should be a nice day out.

I also wanted to ask if you've been to the farmer's market recently. I went last week and found some amazing heirloom tomatoes and fresh basil. I made a caprese salad that was honestly the best I've had all summer. The peaches are starting to come in too which is exciting. I might try baking a pie this weekend if I have time.

So I finally got around to trying that fermentation project you told me about. I started a small batch of pickled vegetables using the brine ratio you shared and it's been sitting on my counter for about a week now. The smell is actually pretty pleasant and I'm getting curious about how they'll taste. I also added some dill and garlic like you suggested. The jars look nice lined up on the counter. I think I might try making some hot sauce next if this goes well. Thanks for the inspiration. I also wanted to mention that I found a great deal on mason jars at the thrift store near my house. They had a whole box of different sizes for just a few dollars. I sterilized them all and they're ready to go for my next batch. The fermentation process is really satisfying to watch with the bubbles forming and the color changing slowly over time.

I also started reading that book about urban gardening that you recommended. The chapter on container gardening for small spaces is really practical. I'm already planning some changes to my balcony setup based on what I've learned. The idea of growing tomatoes and peppers in pots on a railing is something I never considered before. I might try it next spring. Let me know if you've tried any of the techniques from the book yourself.
