I was just thinking about that hike we did up to Eagle Lake last fall. The way the light hit the water right before sunset was incredible. We should really plan another trip soon, maybe something a bit more challenging this time. I heard the trail up to Granite Peak is amazing but pretty strenuous. We would need to start really early to avoid the afternoon thunderstorms. Do you think we could get a group together for it? We could rent a couple of cabins nearby and make a weekend out of it. I remember we brought way too much food last time, but honestly, I would rather have extra snacks than run out. The homemade trail mix you made was perfect. I have been trying to replicate it but can never get the ratio of chocolate to nuts right. Anyway, let me know what you think about Granite Peak. We should check the weather and trail conditions before committing. I am free the first two weekends of next month. Hopefully we can coordinate something.

It's funny you mentioned Dune. I re-read it last year and picked up on so many political undertones I missed the first time. The way Herbert weaves ecology, religion, and power dynamics is just masterful. I actually started reading the second book, Dune Messiah, but I had to take a break because it is quite dense. Have you seen the newer movies yet? I thought the visuals were stunning, especially the depiction of Arrakis. It really captured the scale and harshness of the desert. My favorite part was the ornithopters, they looked exactly how I imagined them. We should do a book club thing for the series, it might help me get through the sequels faster. I have a friend who says God Emperor of Dune is her favorite, but I have a hard time believing a book about a worm emperor could top the original. Let me know when you are free next. We can grab coffee or something and chat about it. I would love to hear your take on the Bene Gesserit's long-term strategy.
