I have been trying to learn a few basic carpentry skills on my own and it is definitely harder than it looks on video. The first thing I attempted was building a simple bookshelf and let me just say it wobbles more than I would like. But it is standing and it holds books so I consider it a win. kypTRWVnHT A friend told me about this online course that walks through framing and finishing and I am thinking about signing up. My weekends have been pretty free lately and I want to make the most of the good weather before winter comes. I also picked up a new set of clamps and they make such a difference in holding pieces steady while the glue dries. Next on my list is a small bench for the entryway. I found some nice pine boards at the local supplier and they cut them to size for me which saved a ton of time. I am still learning how to use the chisel without slipping but practice helps. It is rewarding to see something take shape from just raw materials.

I finally decided to reorganize my garage last weekend and I am so glad I did. It took me about six hours total but I got everything sorted into bins and labeled. I found my old camping gear that I thought I lost and a box of vintage tools that belonged to my grandfather. The space feels twice as big now and I can actually park my car inside again. I used a simple pegboard system for the smaller items and it worked great. I also mounted a shelf up high for the seasonal stuff that I only need a couple times a year. Next I want to put down some epoxy coating on the floor to make it easier to clean up spills. I have been researching brands and watching comparison videos and I think I have picked one that will hold up well. My neighbor saw the results and asked me to help him with his garage next month. It feels good to have a system in place and know exactly where everything is when I need it.
