The raised bed approach would work best for the south side of the lot since that area gets the most sunlight throughout the day. We should plan for about six beds that are each four feet wide and eight feet long with a two-foot pathway between them so everyone can move around easily with wheelbarrows and tools. The soil test results came back yesterday and the pH is slightly acidic which means blueberries and tomatoes should do really well there. I was thinking we could assign each household one bed to manage on their own schedule and then have two communal beds for things like lettuce and herbs that everyone can share. The water access point is on the north end so we will need to run a hose line along the fence to reach the far beds. That reminds me that I checked with the city permits office and they confirmed we do not need any special permissions as long as we keep the structures under three feet tall and maintain a four-foot setback from the property line. We should also talk about whether we want to install a small shed for storing tools or if everyone will just bring their own each time.

I looked into the library meeting room availability for next month and the second Tuesday evening slot is open from six to eight so that should work for our group. We have about twelve people who confirmed interest so I reserved the smaller conference room rather than the main hall since it has better acoustics for discussion. For the first meeting I thought we could start with something fairly accessible like the new release from that author everyone was talking about at the last neighborhood gathering. I will send out a poll later this week with three title options so people can vote before I place the hold requests at the library. We should also decide if we want to rotate discussion leaders each month or keep it more informal where anyone can jump in with their thoughts. Let me know if you think we should cap the group size or keep it open and see how many actually show up. I also wanted to ask if anyone has dietary restrictions for the snacks since I plan to bring something simple for the first meeting.
