Yeah I totally see what you mean about the backyard layout. I think we should stick with the flagstone path idea because it handles the slope much better than gravel would. Once we get the edging in place it'll look really clean. I was also thinking we could put a small seating area near the oak tree maybe using those concrete pavers we saw at the supply yard. They had a nice charcoal color that would tie in with the house trim. Let me know what you think about the overall shape though. I sketched out a curved path versus a straight one and the curved definitely feels more natural for the space. We can adjust the width too if you want it wider for a bench or something. I already checked with the county and we don't need a permit for this kind of hardscaping just have to keep it off the easement. Also if we want to do it this season we should probably order the materials next week because they said lead times are about ten days for the flagstone. Let me know if you want to meet up this weekend to mark it all out with spray paint. We can make the final call on the layout then.

About the potluck next Saturday I think bringing that baked ziti is a solid choice. It travels well and you can just reheat it at their place. I usually make mine with a mix of Italian sausage and ground beef plus a ton of mozzarella on top. If you want to keep it vegetarian you could just leave out the meat and add more veggies like zucchini and bell peppers. I usually prep the night before and bake it fresh there if that's easier for your timing. Let me know if you need a good recipe I have one that uses a bechamel base instead of ricotta and it stays really creamy. Also are we doing a gift for the host? I was thinking we could chip in for a nice grill set or maybe a gift card to that hardware store he likes. Just let me know what you think and I can stop by the store this week to pick something up. I figured we could each throw in twenty or thirty bucks whatever works for everyone.
