Hey thanks for asking about the trail conditions up near Mount Rainier. I was just out there last weekend actually and the skyline loop is in pretty good shape for this time of year. There are still a few muddy patches near the waterfall section but nothing too bad if you wear proper boots. I would recommend starting early around 6am because the parking lot fills up fast even on weekdays now. The wildflowers are starting to come out along the lower meadows which is always nice to see. If you take the main route you will get some really good views of the mountain before the clouds roll in around noon. Make sure you bring layers because it gets chilly once the wind picks up near the tree line. I packed sandwiches and plenty of water and that worked out well. The round trip took us about four and a half hours with a few stops for photos. Let me know if you want more specific directions for the shortcut we found near the creek crossing.

Regarding your question about how to coordinate the community potluck next month I think the best approach is to start a shared sign-up sheet about two weeks ahead so people can choose what they want to bring. That way you avoid having too many desserts and not enough main dishes. I did this for the neighborhood gathering last spring and it worked really well. We set up a simple grid with categories like appetizers mains sides salads and desserts and asked everyone to fill in their name next to the item they planned to bring. We also made sure to have a few people bring plates utensils and napkins so nothing was forgotten. The key is to send a reminder about three days before the event because people tend to forget what they signed up for. We also had a couple of folks who offered to bring drinks which helped round everything out. If you want I can share the template I used for the sign-up sheet. It made the whole process much smoother and everyone knew exactly what to expect when they arrived.
