I think the trail we should take is the one that goes around the lake instead of straight up the ridge. It adds about two miles but the incline is much gentler and we will not need to bring as much extra water. I checked the weather forecast and it looks clear for Saturday morning so we should start early before the heat really sets in. A few of us were thinking we could stop at the overlook about halfway through and have a snack break there. The views from that spot are usually pretty good this time of year. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes because there are some rocky sections near the creek crossing. I will bring my first aid kit and some extra snacks just in case anyone needs them. Let me know if you want to carpool from my place since parking can get tight on weekends. Also if anyone has dietary restrictions let me know so I can plan the snacks accordingly.
I was thinking we could head out around seven in the morning to beat the crowds. The parking lot fills up fast on Saturdays and I do not want to have to park on the main road. I will bring a cooler with drinks and sandwiches for everyone. Just let me know what you prefer to drink and I will make sure to have enough for everybody.

I tried making that tomato sauce recipe you sent me last week and it turned out really well. The key was letting it simmer for almost two hours instead of the thirty minutes the recipe suggested. I used San Marzano tomatoes like you recommended and they made a big difference in the flavor. I also added a pinch of sugar to balance out the acidity and a splash of red wine vinegar at the end to brighten it up. My family said it was the best sauce I have made so far. I served it over some fresh pasta I found at the market and it was a great combination. Next time I want to try adding some fresh basil right at the end to see if that makes it even better. I think this recipe will become a regular dinner choice for us especially during the cooler months.
I also wanted to ask about the pasta maker you mentioned. Do you think the hand crank version is good enough or should I save up for the electric one? I have heard mixed things about both and I trust your opinion on kitchen gear. Let me know what you think when you get a chance.
