I finally decided to pick up the guitar again after years of neglecting it. My fingers are sore but it's incredibly satisfying to slowly piece together a song I love. I'm using an online course that breaks down music theory into really digestible bits, which helps a ton because I always found scales intimidating. The instructor has this relaxed pacing that makes it feel less like homework and more like a fun hobby. I'm aiming to learn three complete songs by the end of the summer just to keep myself motivated. IWZYUzicH4sO2 Already I can tell my rhythm has improved. Next step is to record a short cover, even if it's just for myself. It's amazing how making time for a small creative outlet shifts the whole mood of my week.
I also started looking into different genres to broaden my ear. I grew up on rock and grunge, but lately I have been listening to a lot of fingerstyle acoustic pieces. The nuance in the dynamics really stands out when you start understanding the mechanics behind it.

We had a surprisingly good harvest of cherry tomatoes from the backyard planter this year. I tried a different variety called 'Sun Sugar' and they are incredibly sweet, almost like candy. The trick was amending the soil with compost beforehand and being really diligent about watering at the base to avoid leaf fungus. My neighbor suggested using crushed eggshells around the base to deter snails, and it seems to be working so far. I've already made three batches of roasted tomato sauce and gave some to friends. There's something really grounding about eating food you literally watched grow. I'm definitely going to expand the planter next season and try bell peppers.
I also planted some basil and oregano alongside the tomatoes, and they thrived in the same conditions. The entire patio smelled wonderful every time I brushed past the plants.
