Thanks for asking about the community garden layout. I think we should go with raised beds this time since the soil quality in that area is not great. We can use untreated cedar for the frames and fill them with a mix of compost and topsoil. For the pathway between beds I would recommend wood chips because they are easy to maintain and look natural.

The sun exposure map I checked shows the southern corner gets the most light so that is where we should put the tomatoes and peppers. The shaded area near the fence would work well for leafy greens and herbs.

I also looked into the watering situation and we can set up a drip irrigation system connected to the rain barrels. It would save time and ensure consistent watering. Let me know if you want me to draft a layout plan this weekend or if you would rather meet at the site and mark things out in person.

I finally got around to testing that sourdough starter recipe you sent me last month. It took about ten days to get it really active and bubbly. The first loaf I made was a bit dense but the flavor was excellent. I think I need to work on my shaping technique and maybe let it proof a little longer.

For the next attempt I am going to try a higher hydration dough to get more open crumb structure. I also found that using filtered water instead of tap water made a noticeable difference in how the starter responded.

The baking schedule takes some planning since you have to feed the starter a few hours before mixing the dough. But once you get into the rhythm it becomes pretty manageable. I am going to try adding some whole wheat flour to the next batch for a nuttier flavor profile. Let me know if you want to swap baking notes sometime.
