I think the weekend plans are coming together nicely. We decided to go with the lake option instead of the mountains because everyone agreed the weather would be better for swimming. The cabin we reserved has three bedrooms and a decent kitchen so we can cook our own meals. I picked up some supplies yesterday including charcoal and lighter fluid for the grill. We still need to figure out who is bringing what dish for Saturday evening. My suggestion was that everyone brings their own protein and we share sides potluck style. The kids are excited about the paddle boards and fishing gear. I think we should aim to arrive by noon on Saturday so we have the full afternoon to enjoy the water. Let me know if you think we need to adjust anything. I also wanted to mention that the weather forecast looks great with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid eighties expected both days. I checked the cabin amenities list and they have a canoe and kayak available for guests to use. I am thinking of bringing some board games for the evening since they have a large dining table inside.

The raised bed project is going well actually. I got the cedar planks cut and assembled over the weekend. The dimensions are roughly four feet by eight feet which gives us plenty of space for tomatoes and peppers on one side and herbs on the other. I lined the bottom with landscape fabric to keep the weeds down and filled it with a mix of topsoil and compost from the local nursery. The soil pH tested right around 6.5 which should be good for most vegetables. I planted the seedlings yesterday and gave them a good watering. I still need to install the drip irrigation system I bought last month. That should make watering much easier especially when we go out of town. The fence needs a coat of sealant to protect it from the weather. I was thinking of using a natural cedar tone to keep it looking nice. I also need to pick up some more compost for the second bed I plan to build next week. The local nursery has a sale on organic compost this weekend so I will stop by and grab a few bags.
