I finally finished sanding down that old bookshelf I found at the thrift store last month. It took a lot of patience and more sandpaper than I expected, but it looks incredible with the new walnut stain I applied. The grain really popped after the second coat. I ended up replacing the brass handles with some matte black ones I ordered online, and it completely transformed the piece. It now sits in my hallway and holds all my cookbooks perfectly. My neighbor stopped by and asked if I had bought it from a vintage store downtown. I was pretty proud of that compliment. The whole process took me about three weekends from start to finish, mostly because I let each coat of polyurethane dry thoroughly between applications. Definitely worth the effort for a solid piece of furniture.

Hey, I checked out that new board game cafe downtown last night. The vibe was really relaxed and they had an impressive library of titles, including some hard-to-find European imports. We played a cooperative space game that took about two hours and was surprisingly tense. The owner mentioned they host themed nights on weekends. I'm already planning to go back next Thursday for their strategy game meetup. The coffee was decent too, which is always a bonus.
