Yes I think the best approach would be to start with the raised beds along the southern fence so they get maximum sunlight throughout the day. We measured the space yesterday and it looks like we can fit four beds that are four feet by eight feet each. The soil mixture we discussed should work well I already ordered the compost and vermiculite from the landscape supply place. They said it should arrive by Wednesday morning. We will need to pick up some additional topsoil though because the beds are deeper than we planned. Also I wanted to mention that the tomato cages we used last year are still in the shed and in good condition so we can reuse those and save a bit. Let me know what you think about the layout for the herbs along the west side.

I looked into the neighborhood book exchange idea and I think the best spot would be near the community center entrance where people already gather. We could use a small weatherproof cabinet with a glass door so folks can see what is inside. My neighbor has a spare cabinet that she is willing to donate and I can paint it over the weekend. We will need to set some simple guidelines like take one leave one but nothing too formal. The library said they would help promote it through their newsletter which would be great. Also I spoke with the parks department and they said we would not need a permit as long as it is on the paved area near the bench.
