I was just thinking about that conversation we had about weekend hiking trails. I finally looked up that route you mentioned near the lake and it seems like a great choice for a half-day trip. The trail is about five miles round trip with some gentle elevation gain, nothing too strenuous. The reviews mention that the views from the top are really stunning, especially in the late afternoon light. I checked and the parking lot is usually not too crowded if you get there before nine. There is also a picnic area near the trailhead where we could have lunch afterward. I think it would be a nice way to spend a Saturday. Let me know if you are free sometime soon to give it a try. I can bring snacks and plenty of water. We should probably also bring sunscreen since there is not much shade along the ridge section. I am looking forward to it. Also, I read that there might be some wildflowers blooming along the trail this time of year, which would be a nice bonus.

You know how we were talking about that documentary series on ancient civilizations. I finally watched the first two episodes and I am really impressed with the production quality. The way they explain the cultural context and the architectural achievements is fascinating. The episode on the Roman aqueducts was particularly interesting because I had no idea how sophisticated their engineering was. They used gravity and precise gradients to move water over long distances, which is pretty remarkable considering the tools they had available. The second episode covered Egyptian pyramids and had some incredible aerial footage that really shows the scale of those structures. I think you would really enjoy it. There are six episodes total, each about forty-five minutes long, so it is not too much of a commitment. Let me know if you want to watch the rest together sometime. I could make some popcorn and we could make an evening of it. Let me know what you think.
