We went ahead and booked the campsite for next weekend. It’s at Pine Grove, site 12, which is near the creek and has good shade. I checked the weather and it looks like it’ll be clear, so we shouldn’t have any issues with rain. Sarah confirmed she’ll bring the tent and cooking gear, and I’ll handle the food, so don’t worry about bringing anything extra. The plan is to arrive around 10 AM on Saturday, set up, then do the moderate loop trail in the afternoon—about 4 miles round trip. Sunday morning we can take it easy and be packed up by noon. Let me know if you need directions or if your schedule changes. Also, I reserved the fire pit, so we can have a campfire Saturday evening if the conditions allow. It should be a nice getaway without too much driving. Let’s aim to carpool from the usual meeting spot at 9 AM. If you think of anything else we might need, just let me know. I’m looking forward to it.

About the garden project – I finally got the raised beds built last weekend. I used untreated cedar, which should hold up for several seasons. I’m planning to plant tomatoes, peppers, and basil in the first bed, and then maybe some lettuce and carrots in the second. The soil mix I used is three parts topsoil, one part compost, and one part perlite for drainage. I also installed a drip irrigation system on a timer, so it waters every other day early in the morning. That should save a lot of hassle. If you want to start something similar, I can share the plans I used – just let me know. The whole setup took about two full days, but it went smoothly. I also added some netting to keep birds away. Next I need to mulch around the base to retain moisture. Let me know if you have questions about the soil mix or the irrigation.
