What's New?We're excited to announce the release of two new newspaper collections: The Journalist and the World Newspapers Collection. The Journalist (New York City, NY) 1884-1907 Founded in 1884, the Journalist was a weekly trade newspaper that covered the newspaper industry until it merged with rival Editor and Publisher in 1907. The Journalist was known for its detailed profiles of newspaper titles as well as editors and reporters; these profiles also covered women and African Americans in the industry. Recently digitized newspapers from Panama and Argentina have been added to the new World Newspapers collection. La Estrella de Panamá (Panama City, Panama) 1864 (weekly), 1866-1920 (weekly), 1904-1920 (daily). The Estrella de Panamá is the oldest daily newspaper published in Panama. It was founded in 1849 as the Spanish-language edition of the English-language Panama Star, and it covered local events like the building of the Panama Canal. Democracia (Buenos Aires, Argentina) 1945-1946, 1952-1961. A daily Argentinian newspaper originally published by Antonio Manuel Molinari that endorsed Juan Perón’s 1946 presidential campaign. This newspaper covers an important period of South American political history, including the rise of Juan Perón and the aftermath of World War II and its effects on South America. Hombre de Campo (Buenos Aires, Argentina) 1945-1946. A weekly Argentinian title published by Antonio Manuel Molinari. The collection includes scattered issues from the Canal de Panamá (Bogotá, Colombia) from 1890, the Diario de Panamá (Panama City, Panama) from 1919-1920, El Nacional (Mexico City, Mexico) from 1882, La Union Liberal (Panama City, Panama) from 1870, Le Journal de la Bourse (1880) and Star & Herald (Panama City, Panama) from 1869-1913. This collection also includes previously digitized content from the English-language Bengal Hurkaru (Kolkata, India) from 1805 and 1828-1834. Click here for more information.
