When I was a young child, I had constant chronic ear infections that caused severe hearing loss. Because I was so young, when I started to learn to talk, I couldn’t sound out words correctly, and I was badly bullied at school for how I sounded.
I just wanted to fit in, but instead I was isolated from peers – even the teachers at school made me feel invisible as they didn’t bother making lessons accessible!
This week, my story has been shared on BBC Radio 4 to help raise awareness and support for RNID. RNID changed my life, and you can help people like me right now by giving to this appeal.
Will you help give people like me a lifeline of connection today?
Everything changed when I found RNID.
It wasn’t until I was in my thirties – after years of anxiety and grappling with a world that often fails to fully include people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus – that I felt ready to seek support. I connected with my local RNID Near You and the support they gave changed my life. Now I’m feeling more confident, more independent and less isolated from the world.
Your gift today could mean even more people get support that helps them to reconnect with people around them.
