The soil there is pretty good already and adding too many amendments might actually throw off the balance. My brother had the same issue when he tried to grow tomatoes last spring and he kept adding stuff to the soil without testing it first. Turned out the pH was already perfect. I finally watched that documentary you recommended last night and wow it was really good. I had no idea about the history behind it all. The part where they talked about the early experiments was fascinating even though some of the techniques seemed kind of rough by today standards. My cousin actually works in a related field and she said the research has come a long way since then. She mentioned a few books I should check out if I want to learn more. I might grab one from the library this weekend. Also the soundtrack was surprisingly good for a documentary. Usually those are pretty forgettable but this one had some really nice ambient pieces that fit the mood perfectly. Anyway thanks for the recommendation.
