What's the story? Bluetooth-enabled tasers and body-worn cameras, used by thousands of Australian police officers, are inadvertently revealing their real-time location to any criminal with a phone or laptop.
Tell me more: Four Corners has spoken to a hacker who showed us how he can locate and track officers using any Axon Bluetooth-enabled device. Axon has a monopoly on tasers, selling to more than 18,000 policing agencies, including every state and territory in Australia.
So what's being done about it? Four Corners approached police agencies in almost every state and territory. None would say whether they had informed officers or described any steps they had taken to ensure their safety.
Four Corners also approached police unions in every affected state and territory. All declined to comment.
BONUS: Learn more about the secretive tactics behind investigations into taser deaths, and the role played by the device's multi-billion-dollar US manufacturer.
