I turned 40 and...

Hi ,

How are you doing?

Before I get into this week’s tricks, I wanted to share something with you.

This May, I’m doing a Power Query learning event where I’ll take 2 live masterclasses, share fun challenges, and help you get better at Power Query along the way.

So if Power Query is something you want to improve at, I’d love for you to register for the event.

Share it with a friend who wants to learn Power Query too. It’ll also increase your chances of winning a prize.

Now let’s get into this week’s video.

Nested tables are one of the most useful things in Power Query, but also one of the easiest places to get confused.

In this video, I show a few really useful tricks to help you work with nested tables more confidently - how to transform them, pull values from them, add columns inside them, and combine them dynamically without hardcoding everything.

I also show a neat way to combine only the common columns across multiple nested tables, which is super useful in messy real-life data.

Combine Tables Without Breaking Your Query

Instead of expanding, use this M pattern to combine the tables. It’s simpler, cleaner, and you don’t have to worry when things change later.

Get Short Month Names in Power Query

Use Date.ToText with "MMM" to create short month names directly from your date column.

I'm Conducting a Data Presentation Workshop

For a big part of my career, I worked in financial services, where my job was not just to analyse data, but also to present it clearly in Excel and PowerPoint.

Over time, I got really deep into the craft of data presentation - how to structure information, what to show first, how to guide attention, and how to make the message easy to understand.

And the interesting part is, those same ideas work everywhere - in PowerPoint, Excel, or Power BI.

That’s exactly what I’ll be covering in an upcoming workshop for Goodly Insider members.

So if a big part of your work involves presenting data and helping others understand it quickly, I’d love to welcome you to Goodly Insider and have you join the session.

I turned 40 this week :)

My son got me this cake, my wife got me these beautiful flowers and honestly, that was more than enough to make the day special.

Feeling thankful for family, good health, meaningful work, and the chance to keep getting better every year.

I’ll leave you here for this week.
See you next time with more tips, tricks, and some fun from my side.

Much Love
Chandeep

P.S. Don’t forget to register for the Power Query Festival. I’ve planned some fun sessions, a few challenges, and a couple of other nice things for you
