“I’m happy,” read the text message from Alex Cora late Sunday morning, roughly 12 hours after he was fired by the Red Sox.
Just two words, but they said everything.
There was no elaboration, and none was needed. Cora was hungry to join the Red Sox when he was first hired in 2017 and has since watched one star player after another chased away by an organization that claims it is driven to win but has taken one wrong turn after another in recent years.
A smiling Cora posed for a photo with the other scapegoats from his staff on Saturday night and posted it on his Instagram. You’d be smiling, too, if you had a contract through 2027. Or he could choose to get back in the game with another team. MLB Network would be interested, too.
