The 2022 fentanyl death of Eric Richins garnered national attention, in part because of a chilling detail: Two months before her arrest, his wife, Kouri, published a children’s book about grief. Eric’s death prompted his family to hire private investigator Todd Gabler, who thought Kouri might have been responsible. She was already in the midst of suing her husband’s family over his secret trust, and prosecutors argue access to his money and her affair were grounds for a motive. Gabler found an unusual pattern of texts between Kouri and her housekeeper, who was on probation for drug charges. The findings would later help investigators question the housekeeper on the source of fentanyl and charge Richins with murder. |
