An impressive number of you were game to share a poem – which we may include in a future newsletter – or a thought about the way poetry has shaped your life. Thanks for filling our inbox with some beautiful words:
Rosalie S. wrote: “I love poetry and have memorized my favorite poems. They’re wonderful to recall anytime I need them, e.g. during a sleepless night.”
Richard L. wrote: “I have been writing poetry since I was in college – and that is now over 60 years ago. You see I discovered T.S. Eliot then and something called free verse, which is poetry that does not necessarily have to rhyme. Poetry means so much to me because it is about our shared humanity. It’s about the connection we all have to each other. I try to use poetry to express that connection with emotion and strong feelings through clear images using metaphors and sometimes rhymes.”
Judy F. wrote: “Open up a page of Mary Oliver. Any page. There is today, learning, feeling. Every time. Any page.”
That’s all for now. See you next week!
