My wife has dementia. Her birthday was coming up. I don't think she was aware of this milestone, and she has lost her words so we can't really converse.
I usually bring a food gift for her birthday -- like her favorite coffee ice cream. But then I walked by a shop and saw a sweater in the window. It was so chic and so much her style. She didn't really need a sweater. But I thought: She would have loved it in the past. Maybe she'll love it now.
The headline of the story gives away the ending: "A birthday gift for a partner with dementia brings unexpected joy."
