Student Survey Form

Dear GBW Families,

Although the beginning of the next school year may seem far away, we are already planning for classroom assignments for the 2026-2027 school year. To assist in this process, each year we like to provide families the opportunity to share information about their child by completing the Student Survey.  Your feedback will be shared with the entire committee (principal, assistant principal, classroom teachers, counselors, support staff & specialists) when we collaboratively make our class placements.

Please note that we do not accept requests for a particular teacher.

When our committee makes our class placements, we will use a complex set of data including academic needs, social / emotional / behavioral needs, teacher feedback, and will also include parent feedback from this form.  Our commitment to the community is that we will read and consider this feedback when making class placements so that we ensure all students are successful next year.

Please complete the Student Survey Form by no later Thursday, May 21st, 2026.  Any feedback received after this date will not be used in our class placement meetings.

Thank you,

Mr. Blount and Mrs. Odom

NOTIFICATION OF TESTING AND RETEST PERMISSION FORM

State Assessments, Grades 3-6

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Students in grades 3-6 participate in state assessments each year. State assessments measure how students are learning grade level standards. Format and timing of state assessments vary by subject and grade level. The Standards of Learning (SOL) tests include mathematics, science in grade 5, and reading standardized tests, with an integrated reading and writing (IRW) component in grade 5.

More information about these assessments can be found on the webpage: SOL Tests in Elementary and Middle Schools (https://www.fcps.edu/node/42716). The Grade Level Tests webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/50045) outlines the division testing schedule for required assessments at each grade. School staff will contact you with the specific dates your student is scheduled to take spring SOL tests.

The state allows some elementary students who fail a spring SOL test to have another attempt before the end of the school year. Retests are not offered for the integrated reading and writing (IRW) component. Parent/guardian permission is required for the school to retest any student in grades 3-6. A decision not to allow retesting will not impact your student’s course grade or academic record.

If you believe your student would benefit from a second opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and skills on the spring SOL test, submit your decision using the Parent Digital Consent application (https://www.fcps.edu/family-resources/technology/digital-resources/consent). This application uses your SIS ParentVUE login. If you don’t have a SIS ParentVUE Account, you may complete and return the form below to the school to give permission for retesting.

If you have questions about state assessments or about SOL retesting, contact your student’s teacher or the school test coordinator, Charlotte Quigley.

Statewide Election: No School for Students

  • Community Conversations: Share Your Thoughts With Dr. Reid

As a listening leader, connecting with community members across our school division is critical to FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. Her Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) on:

Click on a date to register to attend that event. Registration is not required, but helps with planning, especially for child care and interpretation services. Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement page for the most up-to-date information.

2026-27 Kindergarten Survey

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Please help us with projecting the Kindergarten enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year. Virginia Law, section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2026, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.

If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2026, please complete this form. If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them, as we are especially interested in reaching those Greenbriar West families who do not have children currently attending school.

The information on this survey will help the school plan for adequate facilities and personnel for the 2026-2027 school year. Please email the completed form to Patty Li at pli@fcps.edu.

Snack Sign-up

Please consider donating snacks for students at Greenbriar West Elementary! These snacks are kept in classrooms and with our counseling staff to help support students who don't have a snack during the school day.
