We are pleased to share our 2025 Annual Report, highlighting our expanded support for animals and the people that care for them, and partnerships and programs that help our mission reach beyond traditional sheltering.
More than 5,000 animals came through our doors. At the heart of that work was our ongoing effort to strengthen community‑based services that keep pets with their families, build stronger adoption connections, and support public safety across the county.
Together with our residents, volunteers, fosters, and community partners, we celebrated several exciting milestones:
- More than 9,000 pets received food, supplies, or vaccinations through the Pet Resource Center.
- The Adoption Ambassadors program launched, helping visitors make stronger adoption matches.
- Animal control and sheltering were unified under one agency with the launch of our new name, Fairfax County Animal Services.
- Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter funded more than $321,000 in surgeries, medical care, and other direct support for pets in need.
We're proud of everything we've accomplished this year. Explore the annual report to see how we are advancing compassion, dignity, and safety for every animal.
Another Year of Adoption Auditions
Adoption Auditions continued to grow, with more pet adopters choosing to use the five-day trial period. Many shared that time at home helped them assess fit, feel more confident, and make informed decisions. In many cases, that process led to adoptions that might not have happened otherwise.
Volunteers in Action
More than 425 volunteers supported our programs and services across both campuses last year, helping with animal care, enrichment, adoptions, and community outreach. Their time and consistency strengthened daily operations and expanded what we were able to provide our pet-loving community.
