Welcome to the First Edition of the Reston District Newsletter for 2026!
Captain Jonathan Weeks and I sincerely appreciate the continued support from everyone who has subscribed. It’s encouraging to see our readership grow with each release, reflecting a shared commitment to staying connected and informed about what’s happening across our community. Looking back on March, we’re pleased to share that overall crime has decreased—thanks to the dedication and proactive efforts of our officers. We strongly still encourage residents to revisit and follow our updated 9PM Routine, recently posted on our social media channels, to help safeguard their vehicles and belongings.
We are pleased to announce that the Reston District has received a drone from the Drone as First Responder program which is run out of the Real Time Crime Center. Already this technology has proved invaluable to officers in with the assisting of apprehension of suspects and providing another tool to keep our community safer.
As spring brings warmer weather and more time spent outdoors, it’s a good opportunity to reinforce simple safety habits. Keep personal items within sight, avoid leaving valuables unattended, and remain mindful of your surroundings. If something doesn’t seem right, please trust your instincts and report it.
We also want to highlight opportunities to stay engaged with us through our monthly Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) meetings. These sessions are a great way to learn more about local issues and connect directly with department initiatives. In the coming months, presentations will cover topics such as the Neighborhood Watch Program, FCPD’s Marine Unit and Real Time Crime Center.
Looking ahead, we have several new initiatives planned for 2026 that we’re excited to roll out. We’re confident these efforts will continue to strengthen safety and enhance the overall quality of life in our community.”

 Neighborhood Patrol Unit (NPU)
The Neighborhood Patrol Unit at Reston District Station is dedicated to strengthening public safety and community trust through proactive, relationship-driven policing. Officers in this unit work closely with local residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations to address long-standing concerns, enhance quality of life, and reduce crime through visibility and engagement.
NPU consists of two Master Police Officers and one Sergeant. The Reston district has over 48 miles of multi-use recreational paths running through wooded areas behind neighborhoods and business areas. These areas make it difficult for the average patrol officer to monitor due to their seclusion from the public. The Neighborhood Patrol Unit utilizes bicycles and foot patrols to ensure all community members have a safe environment to enjoy the trails and paths of Reston.
Through maintaining these consistent patrols in Reston's diverse neighborhoods, attending community events, and collaborating on meaningful problem-solving initiatives, the unit helps build lasting partnerships. NPU's mission is not only to respond to incidents—it focuses on actively preventing them by fostering a safer, more connected, and community-centered Reston.

IMPORTANT REMINDER:
Help prevent larcenies from motor vehicles:
- Always lock your car doors. Most larcenies from motor vehicles or stolen autos involve unlocked vehicles.
- Don't leave valuables inside your car. Items such as purses, computers, phones, or wallets are prime targets. Don't leave your property in view.
- Park in well-lit areas and use your car alarm when available.
- Never leave keys or spare keys in your vehicle!
- Do not leave your car running and unattended, even for a moment.
Larcenies and auto thefts are often crimes of opportunity. By reducing the temptation, you will greatly reduce the chance of becoming a victim!!
As always...IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!
