Trump budget boosts Pell Grant amid education cuts
President Donald Trump's fiscal 2027 budget proposal includes a $10.5 billion boost for the Pell Grant program to address a projected shortfall, while aiming to cut the Education Department's budget by at least $2.3 billion, including eliminating funding for minority-serving institutions and other higher education programs. Ind. schools to use Classic Learning Test for admissions
Indiana has expanded use of the Classic Learning Test, which emphasizes classic Western texts and does not allow calculators, as part of a conservative push for education alternatives. State colleges and universities must consider CLT scores in admissions decisions, and high school students can use the test to earn bonus points for their schools' A-F grades. Supporters say the CLT is more rigorous and aligned with Western tradition, but critics say there is insufficient evidence to equate CLT scores with the SAT or ACT.
