The beach is my happy place. There is no doubt about it. Maybe it's because I grew up on the coast, and while yes, Washington beaches are rather chilly, I have always felt most at home next to a body of water (and I do love a cold plunge).
I often think of my favorite travel memory, my first time in the Caribbean on the British Virgin Islands. After a long, hot day of travel, there was no better feeling than racing down to the beach while the sun was beginning to set for a swim on the completely deserted shoreline.
Since that trip, the beach adjacent destinations are always at the top of my list. I’ve enjoyed a floating bar in Sint Maarten, put my toes in the sand in Vietnam, watched for whales breaching in Cabo and taken an icy dip in Norway.
If I happen to disappear, check the beach first.
