Sidewalk Improvements Coming Near Gateway Park

Fort Myer Drive Sidewalk Improvements - Focus Areas

This spring, the Fort Myer Sidewalk Improvements project will begin work on Fort Myer Drive at Gateway Park, and at two adjacent intersections. This work will make pedestrian and bike travel through the area safer. Construction will start in spring of 2026 and be completed in spring of 2027.

Project Goals

The project has three main goals:

  • Widen the sidewalk on the west side of Fort Myer Drive between the westbound and eastbound lanes of Langston Boulevard (under the Gateway Park bridge), and improve the north curb at Langston Boulevard westbound
  • Upgrade the corner curbs and replace the traffic signals at eastbound Langston Boulevard & Fort Myer Drive (the signal will provide a walk-only phase upon completion)
  • Upgrade the signal at the intersection of eastbound Langston Boulevard & Fort Myer Drive

What to Expect During Construction

During construction, sidewalks and lanes will temporarily close and detour as needed to keep crews and yourself safe. Please follow all signs and proceed through the area with questions. Traffic pattern updates will be shared in the Rosslyn Transportation Update newsletter.

Blue/Yellow Line Weekend Rail Closures

Extended Blue Yellow Line Closures

Rail service will reopen this weekend at Crystal City Metro, and then closures will resume on the weekend of May 9. These closures are in service of the Crystal City East Entrance construction project. Service will resume during the week.

Additional rail work by WMATA will also close rail service at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Metro and Potomac Yard Metro stations for three weekends in March and May.

Shuttles will replace trains during rail closures. There will also be an express shuttle from Pentagon City Metro to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).
