Performing Arts Success!

Orchestra

This past weekend, the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association held their state orchestra assessments at Edison HS. Four orchestra groups represented Justice at the two-day event. They are evaluated on three prepared pieces in front of three adjudicators. Following that performance, they are then tested on their musical knowledge and abilities by sight-reading through a piece that they (or the teacher) have never seen before. They are then given an overall score from Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent and Superior.  The Symphonic Orchestra received an overall “Excellent” rating. The Concert, Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestra all received “Superior” ratings. Congrats musicians! We are so proud of you.

Band

The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble performed at state assessment on Wednesday evening and Thursday evening. Both groups earned superior ratings and the wind ensemble earned A’s in all captions while performing grade 6 level literature which is the most challenging/advanced level of music. The students performed to the best of their ability, and many are eager to take their skills to the next level.

AVID Students Visit Bailey’s Upper

baileys visit

On Tuesday, March 10 several students in our AVID class visited Bailey’s Upper Elementary school an had the opportunity to work with the 3rd graders there. During their visit they reviewed the NFL halftime message, “The only thing more powerful than hate is love.” Working with the third grade students they discussed compassion towards one another and what that looks like. The elementary students were able to share their ideas and what they felt was needed to create a welcoming environment for all students.

Model UN Conference

MUN

Justice High School Student Delegates Naomi Natnael, Sunya Islam, Reem El Moujahid, and Miriam Gargis participated in the TechMUN XXXIII Model United Nations Conference at Thomas Jefferson High School of Science and Technology last week. Our students represented Justice well and put in a lot of work to prepare for this conference. Justice High School Model UN club is growing and we expect even bigger things will be in store for next year!
